Balance Sheet Report - Dividends Balance carrying over to new year

When I pull up my balance sheet for 2020 it is still showing dividends paid for 2019. Why is this carrying over into 2020?

You need to make a journal entry on the first day of your present fiscal year to zero out the dividends and seems to retained earnings.
