Question

how do I clear an HST filing date after the original HST has been deleted to facilitate correcting and re-filing

Version: QuickBooks Enterprise

I am unable to re-file an HST return because the date has already been previously used.  Before attempting to re-file the HST, I had opened the original HST file and redated it to the last filing date and saved it.  I then deleted the HST filing journal located under the vendor file associated with HST.  The file looked fine and included all of the correct details, but won't let me save it due to the date already being used.

I'm on a tight timeline to complete year end work ahead of tax prep and I need to make sure this is addressed and close my company file before anyone on staff accidentally posts anything into last year.

I'll direct you to the appropriate department that can assist you with filing the tax return, FAList.

In QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise (Canada), simply deleting the journal entry isn't enough because the Sales Tax module remembers the date range in its internal ledger. Since you've already deleted the journal entry and are still getting the "date already used" error, you'll have to clear the internal status.

With that, I suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Live Support team. They can securely access your account to help you resolve the error and successfully refile your HST return. Here’s how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop and navigate to the Help menu.
  2. Select the QuickBooks Desktop Help option.
  3. Enter your question, keyword, or topic you need assistance with.
  4. Follow the prompts and select your preferred method to connect with the support team.

Please check their support hours to ensure prompt assistance.
