QuickBooks Desktop Premier: Compatibility between Canada and the US

I'm wondering if it's possible to open and use my data file from the above Canadian version in the US version of QB. Has anbody tried that?

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Canadian company files are specific to Canadian versions and can't be directly opened or used in other regions, such as the US, Alemminger. I'll share more details below.

 

Attempting to do so will cause errors due to differences in features, account types, tax settings, and currency that could affect the data during the conversion. It also requires that all computers used to access a single company file be set to the same regional settings. Different regional settings have different date formats, which can cause errors in QuickBooks. To work with data in different regions, you'll need corresponding regional versions of QuickBooks Desktop or other options like QuickBooks Online (QBO). You'll want to consider exploring QBO which offers global versions.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm stuck with the Canadian version of QuickBooks Desktop Premier and don't want to switch to online.

So I'm looking for another solution.

Is there a way to convert the Canadian multi-currency file to the US-version or can anybody think of a different solution?

While there isn't a direct way to convert your Canadian company file to the US version of QuickBooks, I can provide you with a workaround to transfer your data, Andy.

 

As my colleague mentioned, directly converting a Canadian file to the US version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) can lead to significant errors due to the regional differences, such as tax codes, which compromise data accuracy.

 

Instead, you can export your Canadian data using MS Excel, IIF files, or a CSV format, and then manually import it into the US version. For more details on other files that can be imported and exported from QuickBooks Desktop, please refer to this article.

 

Please remember to make a backup before importing the data, as changes made during the import cannot be reversed.
