Question

New Quickbooks ship station is still terrible

I have been using quickbooks for over 25 years and done almost 27,000 invoices. I am a small company and like to keep things fast and simple. The current shipping manager has been just fine all these years. When quickbooks tried to force us to use the new shipping manager earlier in the year it was useless. Obviously they knew this because they have extended the start date about 6 months, I guess to iron out the wrinkles, now there is a new start date showing it will convert over next week. I tried it for the heck of it and it is still far from ready. As for making it easier, that is a joke. And of course trying to get support from quickbooks about it is useless. I tried this last week and the tech admitted to me that they know nothing about it. She tried to help me and she was learning right along side of me and finally told me it was a shipstation issue and I should contact them. The first things I noticed was it was not showing my negotiated fedex rates and showing only the full charge rates. The second thing I hated was just trying to ship a simple fedex envelope was not easy. It does not have the pre stored in details and I found that each time you have to put in the length, width and height for even an envelope. The only time you should need to do this is when it is a non fedex supply item. Luckily quickbooks at least still gives the option to still use the old shipping manager which works just fine, and I would like someone at quickbooks to tell me why we cannot have the option to continue to use the old version if we want to. For over $1000 a year now for yearly quickbooks subscriptions they should have people trained on a big change like this. I am worried that next week the old one will just stop working.

Hello All,

Well I just found another wonderful new feature of the new QB Enterprise Shipping Manager. The INABILITY to create a UPS call tag label. The original QB shipping API would allow for multiple return labels options. (1) I could direct the UPS driver to have a RS (return service label in hand at time of package pickup at my customers location) – One attempt. (2) For a few dollars more the same process as the One attempt but with Three attempts. (3) The RS service I used the most was the ability to generate the return label and email to my customers. The whole process only took 2 clicks. Basically one click to swap senders address (my company) to the receivers address (my customers) and a click to select the desired UPS level of service. After a couple hours with the “award winning” QB Enterprise tech support, we discovered the RS feature is no longer available with the new Ship Station interface. Please bring back the old Ship Manager!

I know many of these things have already been stated but wanted to add my disappointment to the list.  I have filled out the feedback under help a couple of times now but nothing has been done.  I would like the Ship Manager to go back to the old version until they get the bugs fixed - I believe someone who has never shipped a package wrote the software.

  • You must put in the size of the packaging when you have chosen a supplied box by the shipping company.  This should have been written into the software and we should not have to put that in everytime I choose a small, medium or large FedEx box etc.
  • You can not see the price for One Rate and it will not calculate the One Rate price unless you choose a One Rate box which is the same as a regular box.  I should be able to choose the one rate price in the compare rates like the old ship manager.
  • The shipping estimates are off - it will give me a 3 day ship time for a 2 day package.  I have found that if you run the same label over and over sometimes it gets it correct.  My driver is now just reprinting the labels when he arrives to pick up packages.  What a waste in so many ways that this has to be done.
  • Frustrating that you can not see your discounted rate if you have one until after you run a label.  If it ends not being what you want when you find out the rate you are punished by having to go through the whole process again to get another label and another price.
  • I have to remove the dashes from all of my phone numbers!
  • I can no longer ship international!!!

The list goes on and on - this is not an improvement.  I have been a customer for over 20 years and I am not looking for alternatives to QB software for my business.  I have absorbed the astronomical price increases because the system worked and usually worked seamlessly. That is not the case anymore.  Lets all hope this gets fixed quick before everyone finds a better alternative.
