Question

Incorporate Refund into Other Stripe Transaction?

I refunded a customer some money and that now shows as a separate transaction in my checking account register in Quickbooks Online. But Stripe factored it into a transaction that includes a few customer deposits, simply reducing the deposit by that amount. How can I move the refund into this other transaction while still having it on record that a refund happened? I need to do that so the stripe deposit and what's already in the register match.

Hello there, Emancipare.

When a refund originates from a transaction that has been downloaded into QuickBooks Online, we review and match it to the existing refund to its corresponding transaction within your records.

Here's how:

  1. Find the transaction showing a potential match (marked by a green outline under the "Match" column).
  2. Open the transaction details to review.
  3. If the match is accurate, click the Match in the Action column to complete.

If the refund from Stripe doesn't have a matching transaction in QuickBooks Online, an alternative approach would be to link it to an income account and associate it with the customer.

Follow the steps below:

  1. In the For review tab, select the transaction you want to categorize.
  2. From Category ▼, please select the Income Account category you would like and then enter the customer's name from the Customer Name dropdown.
  3. Add other information for the transaction, as needed.
  4. Select Add.

By doing this, the refund amount will now be incorporated into the larger Stripe deposit transaction, reducing the overall deposit amount. This will ensure that the Stripe deposit and the amount in your checking account register in QuickBooks Online match.
