What happens to a payment if my bank account is no longer active, and the payment was already deposited?

When a payment is sent to a closed or inactive bank account, the bank will return the funds to the sender as an ACH return. You will then receive an email notification about this.

 

To ensure you receive the payment, you'll need to update your deposit account in your QuickBooks Payments settings.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click Account and Settings under the Gear icon.
  2. Go to the Payments tab and select Change bank.
  3. Select Add new bank account and enter the account and routing numbers of the new bank account.
  4. Locate the new bank account from the list and select Verify.
