Anyone tried to make changes to company information specifically adding a "legal name" & the system would not let you & then you call QB and they say THEY have to do it?

I understand you want to change your company's information, including the legal name, tharpsauto. I'm here to help you every step of the way.

If you wish to change your company information in QuickBooks Online, here's how:

1. Hover to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.
2. Select Company, then  Edit the section you want to update.
3. If you can't edit the Company name, Legal name, or EIN, or you see Error -7000, edit your company info in your payments and payroll accounts first.
4. Select Save, then Done.

On the other hand, if you wish to change or update the legal name in your QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can't afford to get it wrong.

Your business address is a crucial aspect of your payroll and should match the address on file with the IRS. It's where you will receive significant tax documents and notices. Additionally, having the correct legal name on file for accurate tax filings and form submissions is essential. 

If QuickBooks pays and files taxes and forms for you, contact us to update your business name and address. If you want to update your filing address, complete the IRS Form 8822-B first.

If you pay and file directly to federal and state agencies, follow the steps below to update your business info:

1. Hover to the Gear icon, then select Payroll settings.
2. In General tax, select the Edit icon.
3. Update the Company legal name or Company legal address, then Save.
