How do I turn off two-step verification in QuickBooks Online, and why does it sometimes come back on its own?

4 - 5 scenarios of recaptcha and then wait for the code. I log in 4 - 5 times per day and have to go thru this each time? Come on!

There are two separate verification layers in QuickBooks Online, and knowing which one is prompting you determines what you can actually change.

Turn off Two-step verification

Sign in to your Intuit account.
Select Sign In & Security from the left menu.
In the Two-step verification section, select Turn off.
Enter the code sent to you, then select Continue.

If you sign in with a different phone number than the one on file, update your phone number first so you can access this setting.

Understand what can't be turned off

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a separate, always-on security layer that isn't optional and doesn't appear as a toggle in your settings. It's designed to only ask for a one-time code the first time you use a new browser or device, so if you're still being prompted regularly after turning off Two-step verification, MFA is likely treating your browser as new each time, often due to browser settings that clear cookies or history, private/incognito browsing, or an ad blocker interfering with the session. Checking those browser-side settings is the next step if prompts continue.

Robot page/CAPTCHA and verification code are based on the browser. If you log in your account to a different browser, a robot page and a verification code will be asked.

Also, you will be asked for a verification code if the browser is set to “do not remember history”.

What about on a mac?? This is so incredibly annoying! Please fix this

I’m here to help remove the CAPTCHA for Mac.

Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) helps to avoid from any thwarting spam and automated extraction of data from websites. This is also an added security feature for web browser applications, like QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You need to uninstall Captcha-verification.systems to remove it correctly on your computer. Let me show you how:

In the Finder sidebar, click Applications.
Captcha-verification.systems might have an Uninstaller.
Otherwise, drag Captcha-verification.systems from the Applications folder to the Trash (located at the end of the Dock).
Choose Finder, then Empty Trash.
Once done, use CleanMyPC to clean leftover items.

You can also turn off this feature in Safari to stop the notification when accessing QuickBooks. Here are instructions:

Open Safari.
At the top menu, click Safari, then choose Preferences.
In the Preferences window, go to the Websites tab.
On the left side, choose Notifications.
You will see the list of websites and their settings for showing notifications.
Find Captcha-verification.systems in the list and click Remove button.

Kevin.. I feel your pain, I'm so tired of this crap. I use a password and now have to have text message code also, I log in many times in a day and to have to do this when I'm speaking to one of my customers who wants to pay their bill, but has to wait until I find my phone(that I usually leave in my van) for my text code is ridiculous. Mine even reads "Turned off" I just hung up from qkbks support, NO HELP, I feel they keep passing "the buck" to the next person because they don't have a fix for it. Someone is supposed to call me back... but I have a feeling it still won't be fixed. I feel this was turned on intentionaly because I didn't do anything different. This post should NOT read SOLVED because clearly it isn't.

Same problem here. I did all the steps shown and called when nothing worked, yet a month later it still has not been fixed and from further reading has been going on a couple of years. That makes it seem like forced 2 step authentication wanted by the customer or not.

It's funny - it's Aprl 27 2022, and to get it to post this I had to go through recaptcha, receive a text for the code. And, I've been in Quickbooks all day. Every time I log into quickbooks it happens - I've tried EVERYTHING. The directions people give (Safari preferences, delete from Mac) are all nonsense. Then you see a chirpy QBO employee telling you everything's OK.

Guys. Fix this. I'll join the others in finding another software.

Fed up with verification

This just started happening to me this week, fed up already. I also have never had 2 step turned on. This needs addressed and resolved, no patches or stupid answers needed just fix it QB!!!!
