Let’s work together to clean up old unreconciled transactions so you can successfully reconcile your bank account, Anamarie.

When you set up your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), the beginning balance may have been entered manually. This explains why a beginning balance appears even without prior reconciliation.

To clean up old transactions that you don't want to include in your reconciliation or don't affect your accounting records, you can delete them manually by following these steps:

  1. Go to Accounting and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the bank account that contains the transactions you want to remove.
  3. Click View register.
  4. Select the transaction and then click Delete.

However, if your beginning balance is incorrect, you can adjust it to match your bank statement. Here's how:

  1. In the Chart of Accounts, locate the bank account with the incorrect beginning balance.
  2. Click View register.
  3. Select Opening Balance Equity
  4. Click to open the transaction and edit the amount in the Deposit column
  5. Once done, tap Save.
