how to properly categorize dental insurance premiums and health insurance premiums if you're self-employed?

When I go to track it as Medical, I don't see premiums as an option, only under Business type.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed, health and dental insurance premiums must be categorized under the Business Type. This ensures the system tracks them as a self-employed health insurance deduction for Schedule C, allowing them to flow correctly into your Tax Summary rather than appearing as a standard expense on your Profit & Loss statement.

However, if you wish to classify your Medical under a Personal Type, we advise consulting a certified accountant to ensure compliance and accuracy.

If you don't have an accountant yet, you can find a certified local expert right in your area using our Find an Accountant tool.
