Im trying to open an account that was used by former employees who have dropped off the earth. How do i get in? i need info for tax purposes

Hi, @Overthrow. Thank you for reaching out to the Community for help with accessing a QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account.

Are you attempting to recover a user role login? If so, let's ensure to keep the admin handy and follow these steps:

1. Open your QBDT and sign in as the admin user.
2. Navigate to the Company menu and select Set Up Users and Passwords. 
3. Choose Set Up Users and enter the admin password again.
4. In the User List, select the user who needs to change their password, then click Edit User.
5. Enter a new password and click Next twice, and then select Finish.

On the other hand, if you're recovering an admin account, you can reset the previously set password to regain access and retrieve the documents you need for tax purposes.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop 2020 or later, follow these steps:

1. Open QBDT and your company file. Then, select I forgot my password.
2. Select an email and click Next. You'll receive a token via email to reset your password. If you don't see your email address, select Don't see your email in the list above? and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Enter the token from your email.

For QBDT 2019 and earlier, use the steps below for password reset:

1. Open QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and select I forgot my password on the login screen.
2. Fill out the required information:
   • License number (Press F2 on your keyboard while on the login screen to locate this).
   • Name
   • Email address
   • Phone number
   • ZIP code used when purchasing the product.
3. Click OK and check your primary email associated with your CAMPS account for a code.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password.

Please note that our email may sometimes end up in your spam or junk folders. Be sure to check those folders regularly to avoid delays in the process.
