Question

Transfer ownership of QuickBooks online file

I have a client who is a non-profit. The QBO file was started by the CFO who is leaving. She is listed as the owner. How do we transfer ownership to the non-profit, so that when we have questions, etc, the ownership will show as the non-profit or someone who is currently working for the non-profit? We know about changing the primary admin.

Hi there, @businesscycle.

I'll walk you through the process of transferring the current QuickBooks Online (QBO) account to the new owner.

Note: The current owner must be signed in as a Master Administrator or a Company Administrator. Then add the new user.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon on the Tool Bar.
  2. Under Your Company, select Manage Users.
  3. Select Add user.
  4. Select Company Admin, then select Next.
  5. Enter the new user's email address and name. Select Save.
  6. An email is sent to the person invited to become a Company Administrator. They need to use the activation link to set up their account. If they already have a QuickBooks Online user ID and password, they can use their existing credentials. If not, they can create a new user ID and password.
  7. When already invited and have set up their user ID and password, the current Master Administrator must sign out and sign back in again as the Master Administrator to transfer the role to another user.

Once done, follow the process of transferring the role in this article: How to Transfer Master Administrator Role.

If you need to add and delete users in your account, you may read through this link: Add and manage users in QuickBooks Online.

Should you have any questions about transferring roles, I'm just a click away. I'll be around to help you some more.

Hello - is there a way to transfer ownership of a Quick Start Online account?  There isn't the ability to create additional users in such accounts and I can't simply give away my username and password as I have several other clients under my name.  This account is a not-for-profit that doesn't have the means to pay for a multi-user upgrade.

Thanks!

I need to transfer this Qbks online account to the new treasurer and away from my intuit account. I am still using a desktop version for my personal business. separate from my treasurer duties for the vending association. The association plan is only set up for 1 user level.
