What user role or permissions does a user need to be able to update invoice/receipt template designs without being given full admin rights?

Is it a custom role?

Good morning, @David-Harper

I appreciate you coming back and asking additional questions.

As for templates, the user would need to be a company admin or primary admin in order to edit templates within QuickBooks Online.

I recommend submitting feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider this an option in the near future for other user roles. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Press the Feedback option.
  3. Enter your suggestions.
  4. Tap the Next button to submit them.

Review these guides below for more information on custom roles, user permissions, and more:

If you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day!

Yes, David, one of the types of access you can grant to a user to customize an invoice without giving them full access is a custom role.

Please note that the customer role feature is exclusive to QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advance. If you are using this version, here's how you can create a Custom Role:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Click on the Gear icon and select Manage Users.
  3. Enter the user's First NameLast Name, and Email Address.
  4. Click on + Add New Role, then enter the desired Role Name.

  5. Customize the Role Permissions to define what the user can access and perform.
  6. Once you've completed the setup, click Save to finalize the changes.

For more information, you can check out this article: Add and manage custom roles in QuickBooks Online Advanced.

If your current subscription is under the Essentials or Plus plan, you can use the Standard limited for customers and vendors role.

You can refer to this article to find out what a user can do in this role: User roles and access rightsPlease note that this role may or may not be assignable to new people after May 2024.

Thanks for replying but this didn't fully answer my question. Which permissions need to be given to allow someone to edit templates?
