Error 324 - Ally Bank

Every single time I try to update my banking transactions, I get Error 324 for my two Ally Bank accounts.  I click "Fix", re-enter the sign-in details and it syncs that one time.  I have to do this every single time.  Why isn't this connection staying connected???  There is nothing different at the bank site - no need to update password, etc.

Hello there, @Freelsdraft.

I appreciate your effort for re-entering the sign-in details every time you update your banking transactions and this is not the experience we want you to have.

Error 324 occurs when QuickBooks can't find your account while trying to connect to your bank or credit card's website. I understand that this disrupts your workflow, but rest assured, our Live Support Expert team is here to help. They can investigate this matter further and conduct a screenshare session to better understand the issue.

Here's how to connect with our Live Support:

  1. Go to the Help icon on the top menu.
  2. Select the Search tab, then the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter your concern.
  4. Tap Continue and then choose if you'd like to connect with us through Chat or Callback.

Support availability:

This is happening with our Amex@Work account, and has been for weeks. There is clearly an ongoing system issue. What is the resolution?

I too, am having this issue.  I've followed all the steps to disconnect and reconnect and my transactions are imported, and then this stupid error comes right back.  And nowhere in this thread is Intuit providing any useful suggestions whatsoever.

Has anyone found a solution?  Are QB and Ally bank just never going to talk again?  Is Intuit just blowing us off?  WTF??

Well, I followed directions and got to the Assistant.  It worthlessly regurgitated the same troubleshooting steps that I already went through, and then, when I clicked on the button for live chat, told me "an expert will join the chat shortly," yet no expert appeared.

It seems Intuit support has turned into circular AI Hell and we're screwed on this one.

Thanks, Intuit.

When Error 324 keeps coming back after each fix, the usual cause isn't a broken connection, it's the account selection at your bank being narrowed each time you reconnect. The single most important step is to choose All Accounts (or Consent All) whenever your bank asks which accounts to share, even if you only use a couple of them in QuickBooks. Selecting only specific accounts tells the bank to stop sharing the others, and QuickBooks throws Error 324 for whatever it can no longer find, which is why the same error returns on the very next update.

Two best practices prevent most of these recurring connection errors: have one person handle all bank connection setup and maintenance for your company, and always select All Accounts when reconnecting.

Reconnect and select all accounts

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  3. Find the account showing Error 324 and select Fix now.
  4. Sign in with your current bank credentials.
  5. When Ally asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All. This gives QuickBooks a secure connection to everything; it doesn't add every account to your books.
  6. Map the account to your existing QuickBooks account (don't create a new one, so your history and rules stay intact), then finish the connection.

If it still returns, check for a mismatched or duplicate connection

If the error persists, an earlier reconnect may have used different credentials or left a duplicate connection:

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Manage connections.
  3. Find any accounts with mismatched or duplicate connections and disconnect them.
  4. Reconnect using the original login used when the connection was first set up, select the correct accounts, and complete the connection.

If you use more than one QuickBooks company with the same bank login

When several companies share the same bank credentials, each reconnection can overwrite the account selection for the others, so fixing one company just moves Error 324 to the next. The fix is the same: when you reauthorize, always choose All Accounts or Consent All, then pick only the accounts you want for that specific company. After that, switch to your other companies and refresh their bank feeds; most connections restore on their own.

A note on the American Express question

Amex accounts have historically needed to be connected using the exact Amex login tied to the card, and Amex has tightened its sharing requirements over time, which can surface as Error 324. Connecting with the card's own credentials and selecting all shared accounts is the same principle. If it keeps failing after that, it's worth confirming with Support whether there's a known connectivity issue for that specific Amex product.

To keep your books current in the meantime

While you sort out the connection, you can manually import your transactions by downloading a CSV, QBO, QFX, or OFX file from your bank and uploading it in Bank transactions, so nothing falls behind.

If none of these scenarios match and it's still recurring, reach out to Support with the affected bank and account type, whether multiple QuickBooks companies use the same login, any recent changes at the bank, and whether more than one person manages your connections. That detail helps them pinpoint it quickly
