How do I find and connect to the correct bank listing when error 103 keeps appearing?

Hello,

Hope someone can help me.

Can't fix error 103.

I am not able to reconnect the bank to QB online. I am 100% sure I use the correct user ID and psw and still get the error 103.

Thank you

It's easy to assume this is a password problem when really it's a matter of picking the right listing out of several similar-looking ones. Error 103 usually points to a credential mismatch, but it's worth ruling out a wrong-listing issue first, especially if you've already double-checked your login.

Search carefully, and try other listed versions of your bank

  1. Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account.
  3. Make sure the spelling matches exactly what's on your bank's own website. If a specific name doesn't turn anything up, try a broader version (for example, searching "Citi" instead of a longer branded name), or search using your bank's sign-in URL directly (for example, "hsbc.com").

Some banks release more than one listing, sometimes tied to a specific account type. If the first one you try doesn't work:

  1. Search your financial institution's name again and select a different listing from the results.
  2. Select the link to open your bank's website in a new window.
  3. Confirm you can view your account summary, history, and details there without errors.
  4. If you can, sign out of your bank's website, then go back and continue adding the account in QuickBooks.

If your bank still won't show up at all

  1. Search for your financial institution's name again in Link account.
  2. If QuickBooks still can't find it, select Request.
  3. Enter your bank's web address, then select Request again to submit it.

While that's being looked into, you can still bring your transactions in by downloading them from your bank's website and uploading them to QuickBooks directly. Keep in mind that once the connection is working again, you may need to exclude any duplicate transactions the manual upload created.

Thank you for making sure you've entered the correct login credentials when connecting to your bank, @RG83. No worries, I’ll be here to help you get rid of the error code 103.

May I know what bank institution you’re using? This will help me verify if there’s a reported issue about this matter. I’d appreciate it if you can add a clarification of it in the comment section below.

Error 103 will appear when login credentials provided into QuickBooks Online don't match those held by your banking institution. There are a few things that could cause this issue:

  • When attempting to establish a connection with your banking institution for the first time, you entered the incorrect credentials.
  • You choose the incorrect banking institution choice (there are often many to select from).
  • You’ll need to change the data in QuickBooks Online if you are currently connected and have updated your credentials with your financial institution.

To get to the bottom of it, you’ll want to reach out to your bank to verify if they’re performing any system maintenance update. Let’s log in to your bank’s website to check for any notifications that needs your attention.

If everything looks good on your bank’s website, try to reconnect and ensure to manually enter your credentials.  If the error persists, follow these steps:

  1. On the left pane, select the Banking menu and click Add account.
Note: If you already have an existing bank account in your Chart of Accounts, go to the Action column and select View register (or Account history) drop-down and choose Connect bank.
  2. In the search field, enter the bank’s name or enter their URL.
  3. If multiple results are displayed, select the bank name in the list for your account.
  4. Log in with your user id and password.
  5. If you receive the error 103 again, tap the Go back button and proceed to the next name on the list. Repeat this process until you have successfully connected your account.

If you can’t still find or connect to your bank, refer to this article: Unable to find the correct bank in QuickBooks Online.

If the same thing happens, you can refer to this article for more troubleshooting steps: Error 103 or Error 310.

As a workaround, you’ll want to consider manually importing the bank transactions into QuickBooks. Please keep in mind that it will most likely cause duplicates once the issue gets resolved. Thus, you’ll need to exclude them moving forward.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have any follow-up questions about setting up bank connection. I'll be here if you need further assistance. Take care always.

I have Error 103 showing but can't find out where to apply the steps you gave in a reply some years ago.

With the upgraded QuickBooks chart on "Get Things Done", there is mo place that takes me to Selecting Bank Account.  Also this is not available in the "Banking" section of the menu.

What version of qbo are you using?

@RG83

Utilize the trial version of MT Online to isolate the issue. It is designed to import into any bank or credit card in QuickBooks Online, so there is no specific setting needed. If the same error persists, there is an ongoing problem at your bank or connection.
