error 102

Both errors point to a bank connection problem in QuickBooks Online, and each one has a different cause. Error 102 means QuickBooks can't reach your bank right now. Error 324 means QuickBooks can connect to your bank but can't find the specific account. This is usually because something changed on the bank's side. Here's how to fix both.

Fix error 102 in QuickBooks Online

Error 102 (and the related error 105) appears when QuickBooks can't connect to your bank. This is often temporary and may resolve on its own within 24 hours as your bank works through any issues on their end.

Step 1: Refresh the bank connection.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Update.

If the error is still there after 2 to 3 hours, move to Step 2.

Step 2: Check your bank's website.

  1. Sign in to your bank's website directly.
  2. Look for any alerts, notifications, or messages about outages or account issues.
  3. Confirm you can view your account history and recent transactions. If you can't, your bank may have a connection issue on their end.

Step 3: Try an incognito or private browser window. Open QuickBooks in your browser's private mode and try updating again. Cached data can sometimes interfere with the connection.

If none of these steps resolve the error, reach out to your bank directly to check their system status, or contact QuickBooks support for further help.

Fix error 324 in QuickBooks Online

Error 324 means QuickBooks can't locate a specific bank account. Your bank connection is still active, but transactions have stopped downloading for that account. The most common causes are a changed account number, a closed account, or a reconnection made with the wrong credentials or account selection. Find the scenario that matches your situation below.

Your bank account number or card changed

When your bank issues a new account number or replacement card, QuickBooks loses track of the original account.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Find the account showing Error 324 and select Fix now.
  3. Sign in with your current bank credentials.
  4. When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All.
  5. Map the updated account to your existing QuickBooks account and complete the connection.

Note: You don't need to disconnect the account first. QuickBooks remaps the updated details and keeps your transaction history and categorization rules intact.

If Fix now doesn't show your updated account, disconnect the account from Bank transactions, then select Add Account to reconnect from scratch. When reconnecting, map the account to your existing QuickBooks account rather than creating a new one to avoid duplicates.

Your bank account was closed or suspended

A closed account can't be reconnected. You'll need to disconnect it and add a new account.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Find the account with Error 324 and select Fix now, then Disconnect.
  3. Before disconnecting, make sure all pending transactions from that account have been reviewed and categorized in QuickBooks.
  4. Once disconnected, select Link account to connect your new bank account.

You reconnected using different bank credentials

If someone reconnected the bank using different login credentials (for example, a second user's login), QuickBooks can't match the original accounts and triggers Error 324.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Manage Connections and disconnect any accounts with mismatched or duplicate connections.
  3. Reconnect using the original bank credentials. Use the same login that was used when the connection was first set up.
  4. When prompted, select All Accounts or Consent All.

You selected different accounts during reauthorization

When your bank asks which accounts to share during a reconnection, selecting different accounts from your original choice removes authorization for the ones left out.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account, search for your bank, and sign in.
  3. When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All. This just gives QuickBooks a secure connection. It doesn't automatically add every account to your books.
  4. On the next screen, select only the accounts you want to use in QuickBooks, then complete the connection.

You use multiple QuickBooks companies with the same bank login

Each time you reauthorize the bank connection for one QuickBooks company, it can overwrite the account selection for your other companies, which causes Error 324 to bounce between them.

  1. Sign in to the QuickBooks company showing Error 324.
  2. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  3. Select Link account, search for your bank, and sign in.
  4. Select All Accounts or Consent All when your bank prompts you.
  5. Choose the accounts you want active for this company, then complete the connection.
  6. Switch to your other QuickBooks companies and refresh their bank feeds. Most connections restore automatically.
  7. If Error 324 still shows in another company, repeat these steps for that company.

A tip that prevents most error 324 issues

Two habits prevent the most common causes of this error:

  • Have one person handle all bank connection setup and maintenance for your QuickBooks company.
  • Whenever your bank asks which accounts to share during a connection or reauthorization, always select All Accounts or Consent All. This applies even if you only use a few accounts in QuickBooks. You can still choose which accounts appear in your books on the next screen.

If you're still seeing an error after trying these steps, it helps to have this info ready when you reach out to QuickBooks support: the name of your bank and account type, whether you use multiple QuickBooks companies with the same bank login, any recent changes at your bank (new card, renamed account, credential change), and whether more than one person manages your bank connections.

Let us know which error you're seeing and which step you're on. We're glad to help you get it sorted.
