It's a frustrating spot to be in when the prompt itself won't let you move forward. Error 103 usually means the username or password QuickBooks is sending doesn't match what your bank expects. Here's how to work through it.
Step 1: Confirm your sign-in info
- Open a new browser window and go directly to your bank's website.
- Sign in with the credentials you have. If your password is auto-filled, select the show icon to reveal it.
- If you sign in successfully there, your user ID and password are correct.
If you can't sign in, reset your password on your bank's site first, since you'll need the working one for the next step.
Step 2: Check if your bank requires third-party access
Some banks need explicit permission before they'll let a service like QuickBooks connect. While you're on your bank's website, check for this setting and turn it on if it's there, or contact your bank if you're not sure.
Step 3: Re-enter your bank sign-in info in QuickBooks
- Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
- Select the account showing the error, then select Fix now.
- If your browser auto-fills the username and password, clear those fields first so old info doesn't get submitted by mistake.
- Enter your correct username and password, then select Update.
If you're stuck at a verification prompt with no way to enter a code
Double-check your sign-in at your bank's website using a private or incognito browser window first, since an incorrect security or verification prompt can sometimes appear simply because the sign-in info QuickBooks sent didn't match. If that's not it, confirm you're connecting to the exact bank you meant to, since some banks have very similar names and it's easy to select the wrong one.
If none of this resolves it and you're stuck at a verification step you have no way to complete, that's a sign this particular case needs support to look at directly rather than something fixable through these general steps.
