A full, all-at-once undo of an entire reconciliation is only available to a connected accountant using QuickBooks Online Accountant, or to a user assigned the In-house accountant role. "Accountant view" on its own is a display toggle inside your regular company, so it doesn't unlock the bulk undo option. Here's how to tell which path is yours and exactly what to do in each case.
First, confirm which access you have
If you open the company from a QuickBooks Online Accountant login (your own accountant firm dashboard, then the client's books), you get the full period undo. If you're simply switching to Accountant view inside a standard QuickBooks Online company, you'll unreconcile from the register instead. The steps for both are below.
Option 1: Full reconciliation undo (QuickBooks Online Accountant)
This removes the whole reconciliation at once, so you don't have to touch transactions individually.
- From QuickBooks Online Accountant, open your client's company file.
- Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Reconcile.
- Select History by account.
- Choose the account and the date range.
- Find the reconciliation you want to undo.
- In the Action column, select the dropdown ▼, then select Undo.
- Select Yes, then select Undo to confirm.
Heads up: The reconciliation you pick and every reconciliation after it will be undone, so plan for that if you're rolling back a full year. Afterward, check the audit history, because some transactions in the undone range may have been changed manually.
Full steps: Undo a client's entire reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Option 2: Unreconcile from the register (standard QuickBooks Online, including Accountant view)
If you don't have the QuickBooks Online Accountant product or the In-house accountant role, you unreconcile transactions from the account register. There's no bulk button here, so this is transaction by transaction.
- Go to Settings (gear icon), then Chart of accounts.
- Find the account, then select View register.
- Select a reconciled transaction (it shows an R in the checkmark column) to expand it.
- Select the box with the R repeatedly until it's blank. This cycles the status from R (reconciled) to C (cleared) to blank.
- Select Save, then follow any on-screen prompts.
- Repeat for each transaction you need to unreconcile.

If you need the full undo but don't have it
Because a year of transactions is a lot to reverse one at a time, the fastest route is to have your connected accountant (or a user with the In-house accountant role) run the Option 1 full undo for you. Once the reconciliation is undone, you can reconcile again from your bank statements, starting with a correct beginning balance: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
If the Undo option still isn't appearing after you've opened the file from QuickBooks Online Accountant, reply here with what you see on the History by account screen and we'll help you track it down.
