Question

I have deleted duplicate transactions in QBO the previous evening, only to have them reappear the next morning when I reopen QBO. Please advise as to what happened?

I can help you get rid of the duplicate transactions, robert91.

 

QuickBooks Online uses browser cache and cookies to store visited contents like graphics, search entries, and pages. At times, these accumulated files become corrupted causing strange behaviors in the program.

 

To isolate the issue, you can perform some basic troubleshooting steps. First, you'll have to access your QBO account through a private or incognito window. This process will help you rule in/out the browser as the culprit here. I've listed the shortcut keys below:

 

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge

Once you're in, check the transactions on your register again. If the duplicates are now gone, you'll have to go back to your regular browser and then clear the cache to delete the junk files and enhance your browsing experience.

 

Alternatively, you can switch to other supported browsers. It could be that QuickBooks encountered a temporary issue with the one you're currently working on.

Before anything else, I'd like to know if you perform the basic troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague above. Also, what kind of transactions are you referring to?

 

If it's a bank transaction, either accepted or excluded, QuickBooks will stop the bank from bringing it back into the feed.

 

If you don't add the transaction and remove it by deleting it, rather than excluding it, the system will recognize the transaction is not accounted for and will download the same transaction from the bank.

 

This happens when your bank is connected to QuickBooks Online (QBO) and uploads the same transaction automatically.

 

However, if it's not a bank transaction, I recommend performing the basic troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague above.

 

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting the QBO Care Team to further investigate this issue and find the exact resolution to fix it.
