I've never been able to upload CSV files into QBSE Online. I've tried every tip I can find online, but to no avail.

Yes, you can upload older transactions from a CSV file. Did you encounter an error message while trying to do so? Sharing the exact error will help us pinpoint the issue.

Note that QuickBooks Self-Employed requires a specific, simple layout. If your CSV includes extra data, columns, or unrecognized headers, the system will reject it.

To ensure a smooth import, format your CSV file with these required columns:

  • Date
  • Description
  • Amount (or separate columns for Debit and Credit)

For more guidance, see this article: Add older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Try opening your QBSE account using private or incognito browser. Do you experience the same issue?

Yes, it works — but only through the Banking tab, not through Import Data. Go to Banking → select the account → click "Update" → then choose "File upload" and select your CSV. QBO Self-Employed should accept it from there.

One thing to watch out for: the CSV column headers need to match what QBO expects (Date, Description, Amount). If your bank's export has extra columns or different headers, the upload will silently fail. Quick fix — open the CSV in Excel, delete any extra columns, and make sure the first row says exactly Date, Description, Amount.

If it still doesn't work, try converting the CSV to QBO format (most banks offer QBO export as an option) — that format imports more reliably.
