It's a common headache when a bank changes its login URL mid-stream, and there's a cleaner path here than merging. QuickBooks Online's standard self-service merge process specifically excludes accounts connected to online banking. Merging those isn't supported that way, so you'd need to contact support directly if the two need to be combined.
Try reconnecting through Link account first
Before creating a second account, it's worth trying the "Link account" option, since it's specifically meant for connecting a new bank login when you already have an account set up, rather than starting fresh:
- Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
- Select Link account on the Bank transactions tab.
- Find your bank in the search bar, then select Continue.
- Sign in with your bank's updated credentials, and complete any additional security checks your bank requires.
- Select the specific accounts you want to connect (for example, Checking or Savings).
- Choose a date range for downloading transactions, then select Connect, then Done.
If this results in a new, separate account rather than reconnecting to your original one, that's a good sign it's time to loop in support rather than troubleshoot further on your own, especially since merging bank-connected accounts yourself isn't the supported path here.
If you've already created the second account
Since both accounts are connected to online banking, contact support to have them merged safely rather than doing it yourself through the standard merge steps in the Chart of Accounts.
