Question

transaction

I realized my routing on my quickbooks is incorrect, so I was told I needs to delete the checking account and delete the transactions in order to make the correction to my checking account.  The reason is I was trying to upload my pdf to qbdt file and it will not allow me to because the routing number is wrong.  It has the dummy number in there. So, how do I delete my transactions as well and can I make a copy beforehand to let me know where I put these items?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, Cyn6.

You won't be able to delete an account with transaction activity, you can consider making it inactive if necessary. To inactivate an account, you'll initially need to disconnect its Bank Feeds connection.

Here's how:

  1. Match or Delete your transactions.
  2. In the top menu bar, go to Lists, then Chart of Accounts.
  3. Right-click an account you want to turn off.
  4. Hit Edit Account.
  5. Go to Bank Settings.
  6. Press Deactivate all online services, then OK.
  7. Select Save & Close.

After disconnecting an account, QuickBooks won't download new transactions. You can set up the connection again if necessary.

If you'd like to delete an account, you'll want to be aware accounts can only be deleted if:

  • They aren't used in any transactions.
  • They're not assigned to any line items.
  • They don't have subaccounts. If they have subaccounts, you'll need to delete or move the subaccounts to another parent account first.

Here's how to delete an account:

  1. From your Lists menu, go to Chart of accounts and right-click an account you want to edit.
  2. Select Delete Account, then OK.

I've also included a detailed resource about importing transaction data which may come in handy moving forward: Import & export data

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a great Wednesday!
