What does error 9999 mean, and what can I do about a bank connection stuck on it?

Hello,

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix error 9999. I have been on tech support 6 times now and they all just do the same steps and eventually say it's a "Back end issue". I have been unable to check my accounts for about 2 weeks which is just awesome as we go through this CV stuff. Very unprofessional... If you have any advice, please let me know!

cheers,

Six rounds of support without a resolution is a lot to go through. Unlike most numbered bank connection errors, 9999 doesn't have its own dedicated troubleshooting article, since it typically comes down to something in the connection itself rather than a setting you can change on your end. That said, a few general steps are worth trying while it gets investigated further.

Try a manual update, then reconnect

  1. Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select Update.

If that doesn't help, try signing in through an incognito or private browser window and updating again. If the error still won't clear, disconnecting and reconnecting the account can sometimes restore the connection:

  1. Select the tile for the account, select the pencil icon, then select Disconnect account.
  2. Reconnect it using Connect account or Link account, making sure to select the correct date range so you don't end up with duplicate transactions once it's back online.

Bridge the gap while it's investigated

While the connection is down, you can bring transactions in manually so your books don't fall behind:

  1. Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the Link account dropdown, then Upload from file, and follow the prompts to upload a file from your bank.

If it's been going on for a while

Since this is the kind of error that often comes down to something in the connection itself rather than a setting you can change on your end, if it's persisted for more than a few days despite the steps above, it's worth reaching out to support directly so they can investigate the connection further.

Hello, christ17799.

As of right now, the error code looks to be related to a script error that causes interruption between the connection of your bank and QuickBooks Online. For now, the best course of action you can take would be to bring in transactions through WebConnect. You can visit this article for instructions on that: How to upload more than 90 days of bank transactions.

I would also suggest contacting the QuickBooks Care team so we can open a new investigation into this error in your name. They will be able to trace down the cause of the error and come up with a permanent fix. Follow these steps to reach them:

1. Click Help in the top right

2. Select Contact Us

3. Enter "Error 9999" in the Text box

4. Click Let's talk

5. Choose Get a callback

6. Type your Contact info

7. Select Confirm my call.

This will get you a call from a live agent as soon as one is available.

Thank you for your patience and if you have other questions, I'm just a click away.

I have been having this same issue since April and supposedly they have been working on this issue since January of 2019 at least. Very frustrating since it is my main account I am having this issue with.
