Once you exclude a downloaded transaction, QuickBooks tells your bank not to bring it back into your feed. So if the same transaction keeps reappearing day after day, it's usually one of two things: it's getting deleted instead of staying excluded, or your bank account is connected to QuickBooks more than once, with each connection downloading its own copy. Here's how to tell which one you're dealing with and get it to actually stick.
1. Check the Excluded tab, not just your registers.
Go to Bank transactions, select the account, then select the Excluded tab. If the transaction isn't sitting there, it was deleted rather than excluded, and that's exactly what tells QuickBooks the transaction is missing and needs to come back down from the bank. Going forward, exclude first. Only delete a transaction once it's been sitting in Excluded for a while and you're sure you don't need the record.
2. Check for a duplicate bank connection.
Go to Bank transactions and look at your connected accounts. If the same account is listed twice, every transaction downloads twice, which can look exactly like "the same one keeps coming back." If you find a duplicate, disconnect the extra connection and make it inactive in your chart of accounts, keeping the original connection and its history in place.
3. If it's confirmed excluded and still coming back, delete the extra copy.
In rare cases, a bank will resend a transaction even after QuickBooks has excluded it. Once you've confirmed it's genuinely sitting in the Excluded tab and it's still showing up in For review, select it from the Excluded tab and delete it there. That removes it from your books for good.
A few things worth knowing:
- Excluding keeps a transaction out of your registers and reports, but it isn't the same as deleting it. Only delete once you're sure you don't need the record.
- Not sure it's really a duplicate before you exclude it? Check your bank or card statement directly. If the charge shows up once there but twice in QuickBooks, it's safe to treat as a duplicate.
- Reconnecting or refreshing a bank connection can sometimes re-trigger old transactions, since it makes QuickBooks pull recent history again. If the duplicates started right after a reconnect, that's the likely trigger.

If you've been through all of this and the same transaction is still coming back daily, that's worth a closer look at your specific account with support. A month of daily reappearance despite doing everything right isn't typical, and it helps to have someone check your connection directly rather than keep excluding it manually.
