| If clicking Find match does nothing and you only get an "exit without saving" prompt, that is almost always a browser or display hiccup, and clearing your cache or trying a private window usually clears it right up. If the window opens but shows no matching transaction, it’s because QuickBooks only suggests a match when a matching record already exists within its search window. So the fix is to confirm the record is there, widen the search, or add the transaction instead. Here is how to sort out each case. First, which are you seeing? If the button seems frozen, start with the browser steps. If the window opens but comes up empty, jump to the matching steps below. If clicking Find match does nothing (the button seems frozen) - Refresh the page and try again.
- Open a private or incognito window, sign in, and retry. In Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on a Mac); in Firefox or Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+P.
- If it works in the private window, clear your regular browser's cache and cookies, then try again.
- Still stuck? Try a different supported browser to rule out a browser-specific display issue.
If the window opens but shows no matching transaction You will only see a match when the record is already in QuickBooks, such as an invoice, a bill, an expense, or a payment. If it was never entered, there is nothing to match to, so categorize the transaction to add it instead. To find and confirm a match: - Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
- In the Categorize or Match column, select the transaction (or the sparkle icon) to expand it. In the classic layout, open the For review tab and select Find match.
- Review the suggested matches. If the right one is not listed, select Find other match to search more widely.
- Select Post once the match is correct (in the classic layout, select the matching record, then Save).
Why a match might not appear A few common reasons a suggestion is missing, and what to do: - The record falls outside the search window. QuickBooks looks 90 calendar days before and 20 calendar days after the bank date, so adjust the date filter and try again.
- The amount is different because of a bank fee or a discount, so the totals no longer line up.
- The payment is one of several deposited together. In that case, match to the grouped deposit rather than the single record.
- The record was already reconciled, so it can no longer be matched. Exclude the downloaded line instead.
- The record was already matched to another downloaded transaction, or the same transaction came in twice. Exclude the duplicate.
- The record is in a different bank account, or it is a different transaction type than the one you are matching.
I matched a deposit and now I can't find it Nothing is lost. Matching does not add a new line; it links the downloaded transaction to the record you already had, so the money sits in that bank account's register, and the item moves out of your review list. To find it or undo it: - Go to Bank transactions and open the Categorized tab (called Posted in the newer layout).
- Select the item marked "Matched to" to review it.
- Select Undo if you need to redo it. That sends the transaction back to the For review (Pending) tab.
- If it is not in Categorized, open the Excluded tab and select Undo to bring it back to For review.
If it still will not match after all of this, reply with the transaction date, amount, and type, and we will help you track down why. Official sources drawn from: |
