Why does my QuickBooks Online bank connection keep asking me to re-verify after I've already signed in?

When QuickBooks keeps asking you to re-verify your bank connection over and over, even after you've already signed in successfully, the fix usually isn't about signing in again. It's about resetting the connection itself. Working through a few steps in order clears this up for most people.

Start with a manual update

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the account, then select Update.

If you're prompted to verify again during the update, follow the steps on your screen to complete it.

  • Most banks send new transactions to QuickBooks about every 24 hours, so timing can vary.
  • If the update still doesn't pull in your transactions, sign in to QuickBooks through a private or incognito browser window, then try the update again. This rules out a browser extension or an old, cached sign-in as the cause.
  • Transactions older than 90 days won't come through with an automatic download. You'll need to add those to QuickBooks manually.

Check your bank's own website

If updates still seem stuck after that, the repeated verification prompt may be coming from your bank rather than QuickBooks.

  1. Go to your bank's or credit card's website. If you're not sure of the URL, go to Bank transactions, select Link account, then find and select your bank to see the listed URL.
  2. Sign in to your account directly.

Once you're in, look for any posted outage or maintenance notice, messages or alerts on your account, and any display issues as you browse the site. Bank-side outages usually clear up within 24 to 48 hours, and the connection should stop asking for verification once it's restored.

If everything looks fine on your bank's site, go back to QuickBooks, open Bank transactions, and select Update again.

Update your bank info in QuickBooks

If you've changed your account number, username, or password on your bank's website, QuickBooks needs the same updated details to stop prompting you.

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the account card for the account you're working on.
  3. Select Edit, then Edit sign in info.
  4. Enter your updated bank information.
  5. Select Save and connect.

Let's work together to fix your bank connection, @kurt@redundant.m.

Certain errors would stop your financial data from syncing. If you encounter any issues, please follow the troubleshooting procedure outlined in the Step 4 section of this article to resolve them: What to do if you get a bank error.

For the time being, let's perform a manual update to refresh the connection and access your recent transactions. Let me guide you on how.

  1. Go to Bookkeeping.
  2. Select Transactions, then choose Bank Transactions.
  3. Click the account, then hit Update.

As another option, you can sign in to your bank's website to narrow down the underlying cause of the situation. Confirm if they have server issues or going through maintenance. This occurrence delays the data exchange between the bank and QBO.

If everything is working on their end, update the feed again using a private window or other supported web browsers. It could be that the program has a temporary issue with the browser you're currently using. These are the shortcut keys:

  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Also, I recommend these articles related to bank feeds that you can use in the future:

Hi there, @kurt@redundant.m.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I would love to help you, but I just need more specific information so I can address your concerns properly.

Can you tell me more about the error message that you encountered? And what bank did you try to connect to?

Any additional information would help me check for solutions to address your concerns better. Please don't hesitate to provide any further details or a screenshot as a visual guide to explain your scenario more clearly.

Any luck with this? I’m having the same issue where I keep getting disconnected everytime I log in or refresh. I got that email that says no business name too.
