Error 324 means QuickBooks can't find your bank account anymore, even though your bank connection itself is still active. When reconnecting fixes it for a day and then it breaks again, the cause is almost always in how the reconnection is done rather than a one-time glitch.
The most common cause of a repeating error 324
Every time you reconnect or reauthorize a bank connection, your bank asks which accounts to share with QuickBooks. If you select only some accounts instead of all of them, the ones left out lose their authorization and get error 324, even if they were working fine before.
To stop the cycle:
- Always select All Accounts or Consent All when your bank asks which accounts to share, even if you only use a few of them in QuickBooks. This doesn't add every account to your books, it just keeps the connection itself intact for all of them.
- Have one person handle all bank connection setup and maintenance for your QuickBooks company, so the account selection doesn't get changed inconsistently between reconnections.
If your bank changed your account details
Another common cause is your bank issuing a new account number or replacement card. QuickBooks can no longer match the account on file, which triggers error 324.
- Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
- Find the account showing Error 324 and select Fix now.
- Sign in with your current bank credentials.
- When your bank asks which accounts to share, select All Accounts or Consent All.
- Map the updated account to your existing QuickBooks account, then complete the connection.
You don't need to disconnect the account first. QuickBooks remaps your updated account details and keeps your transaction history and categorization rules intact.
A few other things that can cause error 324
- Your account was closed or suspended by the bank, so it stopped sharing that account's data. In this case the account needs to be disconnected rather than reconnected.
- You reconnected using different bank credentials than the ones originally used (like a spouse's login), so QuickBooks can't match the accounts.
- You use more than one QuickBooks company with the same bank login, and reconnecting one company's accounts overwrote the account selection for the other.
If none of these match what you're seeing, it's worth contacting QuickBooks support directly. Have the name of your bank and account type, whether you use multiple QuickBooks companies with the same bank login, any recent changes at your bank, and whether more than one person manages your bank connections ready to share.
