If you're seeing a "Capital One Bank Feed Requires Your Attention" alert in QuickBooks Desktop that won't go away, even after updating your QuickBooks or running Verify/Rebuild Data, try walking through the steps below in order.
Back up your company file first
Before making any changes to your accounts or bank feeds, back up your company file. For the full process on this: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Find and clear the account causing the alert
The alert is often triggered by a single account with an active bank feed connection, sometimes an old, inactive, or otherwise unrelated account, not necessarily one connected to Capital One. Go through each account that has Bank Feeds turned on and reset the connection one at a time:
- Go to Lists, then select Chart of Accounts.
- Right-click the account you want to check, then select Edit Account.
- Go to Bank Settings (this may appear as the Bank Feed Settings tab).
- Select Deactivate all online services, then select OK.
- Select Save & Close.
Repeat this for every account that shows a bank feed connection (look for a lightning bolt icon next to the account name in the Chart of Accounts). Once all of them are deactivated, close and reopen QuickBooks to see if the alert is gone.
If it is, reconnect your accounts to Bank Feeds one at a time rather than all at once, checking after each one, so you can identify which specific account brings the alert back. Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you run into trouble deactivating an account (the lightning bolt icon won't go away), there's a dedicated article for that here: Fix issues when deactivating bank feeds.
If the alert is still there
A few other standard checks are worth ruling out:
- Make sure QuickBooks Desktop is on its latest release: go to Help, then select Update QuickBooks Desktop, then Update Now, then Get Updates. Close and reopen QuickBooks when it finishes.
- Run Verify Data, and Rebuild Data if it finds anything: go to the File menu, select Utilities, then Verify Data. If it flags an issue, go back to File, then Utilities, then Rebuild Data.
If the alert persists after clearing every account's bank feed connection and confirming you're up to date, it's worth contacting support directly, since they can look at your company file's bank feed configuration in more detail. Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
