Why does QuickBooks keep rejecting my bank login for error 103 even though I've verified my credentials are correct?

My bank feed is not updated. I have clicked edit sign in info and resigned into my bank account. However, it is not accepting my login information which I verified it was correct at the bank website. How do I fix this.

It's a fair thing to get stuck on: double-checking your login at the bank's own site should settle it, but error 103 can still show up for reasons that have nothing to do with whether your credentials are actually correct.

Re-enter your credentials manually, not via auto-fill

If your browser auto-fills the username and password, it can submit an old, cached version behind the scenes even when the fields look correct on screen.

  1. Go to Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the account showing the error, then select Edit, then Edit sign-in info.
  3. Clear the username and password fields completely before typing anything.
  4. Manually type in your user ID and password. If your bank offers a Show option, use it to confirm you entered the password correctly.
  5. Select Update.

If someone else originally set up this connection, they can re-establish it directly by selecting Send a request in the error message, which emails them a link to sign back in.

Confirm the bank tile and permissions are right

It's also worth double-checking you're connected to the exact right bank, since some banks have very similar names and it's easy to end up on a similar-looking tile by mistake. Separately, check whether your bank requires explicit permission to connect to a third-party service like QuickBooks. This setting can sometimes get reset on the bank's side, including after a bank system update, which would explain the error recurring even with correct credentials.

If it still won't clear

Try signing in to QuickBooks using an incognito or private browser window to rule out a browser caching issue. If the account reconnects but stops pulling new transactions, you can bring the missing ones in manually in the meantime while the connection issue is sorted out.

Thank you for being a part of the QuickBooks Community, Jennifer. Let me help you get past the error code 103.

Before that, may I know which bank you are trying to connect with QuickBooks? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated to help us identify the issue and find the best solution.

Please know that Error code 103 in QBO indicates that the login credentials you provided do not match the information your financial institution has on record.

Any of the following primary reasons can cause the error:

  • You have entered incorrect credentials while trying to connect to your financial institution for the first time.
  • You have chosen the inaccurate financial institution (there are often many to select from).
  • If you are currently connected and you’ve updated your credentials with your FI, you need to update the details in QBO.

To initially resolve the issue, let's enable third-party access if your bank necessitates it. Certain banks may require your permission to link your account to another service, including QuickBooks Online.

Once done, enter your bank sign-in info in QuickBooks. For an existing connection, here's what you need to do:

  1. Navigate to Bookkeeping, then Transactions, and select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Choose the bank or credit card account you need to update.
  3. Click Edit ✎.
  4. Select Edit sign-in info.
  5. If your web browser auto-fills the user ID and password fields, clear them.
  6. Manually type in the user ID and password for your bank account. If your bank offers a Show option, select it to confirm that you entered the password correctly.
  7. Lastly, click Update.

If this is a new connection, please refer to Step 3 in this article for further information: Fix bank error 103 in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If you're bank feed is also not updating, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this.

There are instances when the browser is full of commonly used page resources, which results in errors or odd behavior. Let's use a different or private browser to view your account. You can use either of these shortcut keys to access one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

You can also get transactions from your bank or credit cards and manually import them into QuickBooks Online. For more details, please check out this link: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

After trying the above steps, please leave a comment below to inform me of the outcome. I'm available to provide further assistance. Take care!

Hi,

Thank you for providing the article information. However, I have done all the above. I just got it to connect using the same methods as this morning. However, it says it's updated and has not pulled any transactions since 4/26/23.

Thank you.

After trying multiple times with the same information, it is now connected.

However, it is still not updating transactions.

I think this happens when a new update occurs, My credentials are correct.  No way around fixing this.  My bank is Libertyville Bank & Trust in Libertyville, Illinois (a Wintrust bank).  Please, someone, make this correction now.

We appreciate you confirming that you have the correct sign-in information for your bank, Gweng. Let me share some information about this issue.

There are chances that some banks need your permission to connect your account to another service that includes QuickBooks Online. You can check if your bank requires this. If so, follow your bank's instructions to turn it on or contact your bank if you need help.

To establish a new connection, connect your bank account like normal.  To enter your bank sign-in information, you can follow these steps:

For existing connection:

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the bank or credit card account you need to update.
  3. Select the Pencil icon, then click Edit.
  4. Select Edit sign-in info.
  5. If your web browser auto-fills the user ID and password fields, clear them. To ensure your browser does not put in old info by mistake.
  6. Manually type in the user ID and password for your bank account.
  7. Select Update.

If this issue persists, I suggest signing in to QuickBooks Online using an incognito browser or other troubleshooting browser options.

Moreover, I'd like to share these articles that can assist you with your bank transactions in the future:

I'll be here if you still have concerns about your bank connection. Have a great day, and take care always.
