I have reconciled a bank with wrong opening and closing amounts. I need to undo the reconciliation and start afresh.

I'll guide you through the process of undoing a bank reconciliation in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to start fresh, sarita5.

Please note that in QBO, you can only undo one transaction at a time if you do it manually. Since you want to undo the entire reconciliation period, I highly recommend reaching out to your accountant if you have one. Accountants using QBO Accountant can undo an entire reconciliation period at once, which saves time and ensures accuracy.

Here's how to invite your accountant:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon in the upper-right corner, and select Manage Users.

  2. Go to the Accounting firms tab, and click the Invite button.
  3. Enter the accountant's details and click Save to send the invitation.
  4. Once your accountant accepts the invitation, they can undo your entire reconciliation. (While the linked article is for the QBO US Version, the same principle applies to the QBO International Version. )

If you prefer to do it by yourself, please follow these steps to undo reconciled transactions one at a time:

  1. Navigate to the Transactions menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select Account history
  3. Review the Check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R.”
  4. Click the box and keep clicking it until it's blank. It removes the transaction from the reconciliation.

  5. Once done click Save. Then close your register.
