What Is Intuit IDEAS? A Guide to the 2026 Small Business Grant Program
Most small business owners are experts at their craft, but may not be an expert at bookkeeping, marketing, or financial planning. Intuit IDEAS was built to close that gap by pairing free software with hands-on human coaching.
The program combines Intuit's AI-driven platform with community partner expertise to help entrepreneurs grow revenue, clean up their books, and become capital-ready. This guide covers what the program includes, who qualifies, how to submit applications. The 2027 Intuit IDEAS Program is now accepting applications with selections starting this Fall.
What Is Intuit IDEAS?
Intuit IDEAS is a 12-month small business accelerator program that combines free Intuit software, expert coaching, and a completion grant. It's designed for small business owners who want structured help scaling operations rather than a one-time workshop or webinar.
Participants receive several forms of support over the year:
- Free access to Intuit's AI-powered platform: Mailchimp, QuickBooks, TurboTax, and Credit Karma, plus training, a $10,000+ value at no cost for one year
- Product Expert Coaching: Support from Intuit product experts across the platform — a QuickBooks expert offering monthly one-on-one help to keep your books clean and accurate, a TurboTax expert to help file your taxes during tax season, and access to Mailchimp resources and guidance to help you build and grow your marketing campaigns
- Executive and business coaching: Personalized coaching to help you grow as a leader and strengthen your business, powered by Zella Life.
- Monthly workshops: Live virtual sessions covering the topics that matter most to growing entrepreneurs — from AI adoption and digital marketing to financial management, tax planning, business credit, becoming a supplier to large organizations, and sustainable growth strategies
- A completion grant: $5,000 cash, plus an optional $1,000 technology grant for eligible participants, awarded upon successful completion
- Lifetime alumni network access: Ongoing connections with Intuit professionals and fellow IDEAS graduates after the program ends
How the Program Works
Entrepreneurs move through three phases: application, review and business verification, and QuickBooks onboarding. Final program acceptance depends on completing all three phases, not just submitting an application.
The time commitment is roughly 3 hours a week during onboarding, then 3–5 hours a month for the remaining 12 months. The program runs mainly virtually, with in-person events held in program metro markets.
Who Should Apply to Intuit IDEAS?
Intuit IDEAS is best suited for small business owners with at least one year in operation and an active customer base who want to grow. The program specifically looks for businesses ready to engage deeply, not just collect free software.
Eligible applicants generally fall into two groups:
- Businesses located in these eligible markets: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York City, Philadelphia, San Diego, and West Virginia. Applicants should live within roughly 40 miles of their metro area to attend in-person events.
- Military veteran or military-spouse-owned businesses: These entrepreneurs can apply nationwide through a dedicated virtual cohort, regardless of location.
Los Angeles businesses have a separate, dedicated cohort with its own application, expected to open later. LA-based owners can join the interest list to be notified.
Who Is Not Eligible
Some business types fall outside the program's scope, such as:
- C Corporations - Intuit's tools are built for S Corporations, partnerships, and similar entities.
- Nonprofits
- Current Intuit employees, contractors, or experts
- Businesses with foreign bank accounts, cryptocurrency accounts, or multi-currency transactions are not eligible.
Additional eligibility concerns may disqualify applicants from onboarding.
- Businesses with an overly complex Chart of Accounts (more than 300 accounts, more than 3 subaccount levels).
- Businesses engaged in real estate activities maintaining more than three properties in one QuickBooks Online file.
- Businesses with more than one business reported in one QuickBooks Online file.
- Businesses who are unwilling or unable to provide pertinent documentation as requested by QBK (such as bank statements, credit card statements, and so on).
- Businesses who have not completed an accurate data conversion from QuickBooks Desktop at the time of onboarding.
- Businesses with commingling of personal and business expenses in the same account.
- Businesses who only want their personal accounts managed.
- Businesses who engage in business activities illegal at the federal level.
- Businesses who maintain full accrual accounts.
- Businesses with foreign bank accounts.
- Businesses with accounts using multi-currency (if multi-currency is turned on in settings but not in use, we can onboard).
- Accounts in cryptocurrency.
- Businesses with LIFO tracked inventory.
- Investments related to options and futures trading.
- Government and 401(k) industries.
- Factoring accounts receivable.
- IOLTA accounts linked to sub-ledgers (client ledgers).
Business owners don't need to already use Intuit products to apply. Final acceptance, however, depends partly on successfully completing QuickBooks onboarding after conditional selection.
How to Apply to Intuit IDEAS
Applying to Intuit IDEAS requires submitting an online application. Follow these steps to apply:
- Confirm eligibility. Check that your business matches the market, entity type, and operating history detailed here.
- Submit the application. Apply directly through the official IDEAS application. Military veteran and military-spouse applicants should select the virtual military cohort in the form.
- Complete Phase II review. The program team scores applications, verifies business information, and checks compatibility with Intuit's products. This may include AI-assisted scoring and expert human review.
- Finish QuickBooks onboarding. Conditionally accepted businesses complete account setup, upload business data, and meet with a QuickBooks bookkeeper.
- Receive final acceptance. Tentative acceptance notices go out in early September 2026, with final confirmation expected in November 2026 after onboarding is complete.
Applications must be submitted in English, and each entrepreneur may submit only one application per cycle.
FAQ
Can I get involved with Intuit IDEAS without applying as a participant? Yes. You can support the program by mentoring or coaching entrepreneurs, partnering as a sponsor or resource provider, volunteering at program events, or referring eligible business owners to apply.
Is there a minimum or maximum team size to apply? There's no hard cutoff, but smaller teams of 1–9 employees have historically performed best in the program. Intuit still encourages applications from a wider range of company sizes.
Can I submit applications for multiple businesses in the same cycle? No. Entrepreneurs may submit only one application per program cycle, even if they own more than one qualifying business.
Can I apply if my business serves customers outside the U.S.? Yes, as long as the business itself is physically located and operating in an eligible U.S. program market, or is run by a military veteran or military spouse. However, the business cannot hold foreign bank accounts or record transactions in foreign currency or cryptocurrency.
What business data will I need to share if I'm selected? To get the most out of your Intuit experts and coaching, you'll share some business financial and marketing information along the way, always kept confidential. This typically includes things like past tax returns, financial statements, transaction history, and marketing plans, so your coaches can give you tailored, relevant guidance.
Can I reapply if I'm not selected this year? Yes. Applicants who aren't selected are encouraged to reapply in future program cycles.
What if I don't live in one of the 2026 program markets? You can still apply if you're a military veteran or military-spouse entrepreneur, since that cohort is open nationwide. Everyone else can join the mailing list to hear about future program cycles.
