Desktop Intuit marketing and tutorial pop up window wont close. How to disable these popup windows?

These windows depicting people at a computer and suggesting I learn about this or that are constantly popping up while I am trying to work. The pop up window blocks my task bar and 2or 3 times out of 10 won't close- no matter how many times I click on "Maybe Later". This forces me to completely close the program to get rid of it, so I can work.

This is beyond annoying.

Then the same suggestions keep popping up with no way to say "No Thank You" or "Don't show me this again" I guess the marketing genius's at Intuit believe we don't know our own minds?  I work freelance with over 20 company files, so I have to go through this with every company I open -multiple closing the program throughout the day.

Please Intuit- Can you fix this?

@Kindra12  While there is a setting under the Edit menu, Preferences, General, My Preferences tab for 'Turn off pop-up messages for products and services', it won't turn off every single advertisement, only most of them.

I'm afraid you're stuck in the Discovery Hub hell with the rest of us, or at least until they kill off Desktop for good.

I understand how irritating it can be to have your work disrupted by pop-up marketing windows, Kindra. To eliminate this annoyance, I agree with FishingForAnswers' reply. Let's modify the default settings to disable these pop-ups on your screen.

You can check the Turn off pop-up messages for products and services box in the default settings to disable pop-up windows. This will ensure you'll enjoy an undistracted experience, enhancing your productivity and effectiveness in handling your finances. I’m here to guide you through this process.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Edit menu.
  2. Click on Preferences.
  3. Select General and click the My Preferences tab.
  4. Tick the box of the Turn off pop-up messages for products and services.
  5. Once done, hit OK.

If the pop-ups still appear, try closing and reopening your QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, I recommend reading this article for the latest updates on QuickBooks: Firm of the Future. This will give you more insight into what’s new with the software.

I'll keep this thread open, so you return if you have further concerns about the pop-up windows in your screen. I'm here to help you out!

Thank you, but no, this is already setup in my preferences in all 20 company files I admin. I've known about your solution for many years. It does not stop the pop up windows showing pictures of real people at their computer and trying to educate me about this or that feature I'm NOT interested in. Then, instead of the pop window closing when you hit "Maybe Later", the pop up window stays open and I have to completely exit the program to get rid of it.  Then it will pop up some other suggestion later.

This is a really stupid way of Intuit trying to teach professional accounting people about their software abilities. It is 100% unwanted and there is no apparent way to turn it off, your solution is included in my statement.

We have the exact same issue with our Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024.

The even more frustrating issue is that the pop up window sits over the account balances window and the "X" used for closing a specific window, when the windows are maximized. In order to see my balances, I have to "unmaximize" the window.
So frustrating to close out of the program, restart just to make an ad go away. It is not like I am using a free version of Quickbooks.

Please fix the problem.

The marketing popup is now an empty white box that is blocking almost a quarter of my screen.  I can't close it, move it, resize it, and its getting in the way big-time when I try to do entries.   HELP!

Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, Joeylou.

If you haven't yet, I'd initially recommend performing the steps covered in KiazzymaeC's post to confirm your Turn off pop-up messages for products and services setting is turned on.

In the event it was already turned off, or it continues happening once turned off, you can try troubleshooting with your Verify and Rebuild utilities.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Window, then Close All.
  2. In your top menu bar, click File, then Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Once your data finishes verifying, you'll see one of three messages. You can continue with rebuilding data.
  5. Go to File, Utilities, then Rebuild Data.
  6. Proceed with the displayed Rebuild steps.
  7. Use your Verify Data utility again to check for any additional damage.

You can also try troubleshooting with the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

If you've tried all of the above-mentioned troubleshooting processes, but are still encountering a blank screen that can't be closed or moved, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a great Tuesday!
