For QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024:

On a 2025 W-4 if an employee puts down $4,000 on Line 3 does that get entered as 2 or $4,000 on the claim dependents on the federal tab?

It should be entered as $4000 for the claim under dependents on the federal tab, Tara.

In recent versions of the W-4 (post-2020), employees no longer claim allowances (previously represented as a number, such as 2). Instead, they directly claim a dollar amount for dependents, which QuickBooks Desktop uses to calculate the tax withholding more accurately.
