Question

How much does Intuit charge to print/mail 1099s?

My client has QBO Payroll Premium. We haven't worked with the payroll module before. Intuit says that the e-file is included as is contractors who download their own 1099 but "fees apply" if we want Intuit to print and mail the 1099s to contractors and vendors. I've spent 2 days trying to find out the cost per vendor is. Does anybody know? We'll have around 30 contractors and vendors.

Hey, @JanetBBerry

Thanks for reaching out in the QuickBooks Community with your question about pricing for printing and mailing 1099s.

With QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium, you get automated 1099 preparation and e-filing to the IRS at no extra charge for the service, but there are potential fees for printing and mailing physical copies, and you'll need the QuickBooks Contractor Payments feature (often bundled or part of the payroll plan) to handle the filing process. Costs like $4 per mailed form starting in 2025.

Here's a breakdown:

  • Included with Payroll Premium: Get access to the tools to prepare and e-file 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms using your existing data, with automatic recording and categorization.
  • E-filing (IRS): Sending forms electronically to the IRS is included with your payroll subscription.
  • Printing & Mailing: We started charging fees for printing and mailing physical 1099s to recipients (Around $4 per form as of early 2025), even with a payroll subscription.
  • QuickBooks Contractor Payments: This separate or integrated service enables the actual filing and payment features, requiring a subscription.

In the end, the service of preparing and e-filing 1099s is part of your QBO payroll Premium, but you pay for the delivery of physical copies.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any further questions. Have a great day!
