Question

If we pay our employees a week behind, how can I change the pay periods to reflect that?

Hello, Bbrawson.

In QuickBooks Online, paying a week behind is achieved by setting the payday after the work period ends, ensuring pay stubs reflect the previous week's labor. This adjustment automatically maintains the schedule for future runs.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll and select Employees.
  2. Then, click any employee to open their profile.
  3. In the Employment details section, click Edit.
  4. Look for the Pay Schedule dropdown, then you can edit an existing schedule or add a new one.

Changing the schedule affects future payrolls only; it won’t alter processed checks. QuickBooks calculates taxes based on the pay date, not the pay period.
