Question

A sub-contractor has received a small cash advance, it has been taken out of the weekly wages to them, how do I record this deduction correctly, considering CIS?

Hi @Perfect PA,

You can enter the deduction together with your subcontractor's weekly wages. Let me provide more details and guide you how.

When your CIS is turned on, we'll calculate your transactions for you to ensure that the amounts are correct. Thus, you can enter the weekly wages and deduction together in one transaction.

To achieve this with the CIS, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Plus (+) icon.
  2. Choose Bill.
  3. Select your subcontractor from the Payee field.
  4. In the Category details sections, add the deduction in a negative amount.
  5. Enter the weekly wages in the item details section.
  6. Click on Save and Close.

Once done, you can view your CIS returns to check the amounts of your subcontractor's pay.

You can read this article for further guidance: CIS in QuickBooks.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns. I'll be around to help.
