An employee has returned to work for me so how do I make it all active again, I clicked to re activate but I still cant run payroll etc for this employee??

Welcome to the Community page, 

There is no way of re-activating an inactive employee, what you will need to do is just re-add them as an employee and then you will be able to run your payroll.
