Do I as the director need to be set up in payroll to pay expenses to for items i've bought on my own card to be reimbursed once the business has revenue?

It is not necessary to set up yourself in payroll when paying business expenses with personal funds, userinfo84.

 

We don't recommend mixing business and personal funds. However, we know it happens and can't void the situation sometimes. You can browse this link on how to record the business expense and the reimbursement: Pay for business expenses with personal funds.

 

Though that is how we do it in QuickBooks Online, we'd still recommend consulting your accountant. They can provide other options that will suit your business setup.
