How to exclude one-off bonus from pension auto-enrolment?

There's currently no way to exclude specific bonus pay types from the initial auto-enrolment threshold assessments, as the pension entitlement setting is permanently locked.

You can implement a postponement of up to three (3) months for your employee to help manage this situation.

Here's how:

1. Go to Payroll and select the employee.
2. Scroll to the Workplace pension, loan and other deductions section, then Edit.
3. Click the pencil icon to edit Pension Status.
4. Change Worker category to Eligible Jobholder.
5. Change "Which one applies" to Auto Enrolment Postponed.
6. Set the Postponement enrolment until date (up to 3 months from the trigger date).
7. Save your changes.

I did something similar, but slightly different, to fix it. If anyone else is interested!

Although worker category was greyed out, there was a slider called ‘enrolled in pension’. I slid this to enabled. Then, further down the page, there is an option to ‘Exclude [name] from pension’. I selected ‘yes’. Then saved.
