To get through this, you'll want to check if you've set your chart of accounts settings correctly. If not, it could be the reason the transactions are not posted to their appropriate accounts. I'll input the steps below so you can proceed. These are the steps: Access your Payroll account. From the Payroll homepage, select the Payroll settings. Go to the Chart of Accounts tab. Under the first column, click the Business Settings. Select default accounts, then use the dropdown menu to select the settings you want to change. You can choose to split each account by location. If you don't see this option you have not set up location tracking. You can follow the same steps for pay categories, deduction categories and expense categories. QB is no longer posting payroll journals to the appropriate accounts, wages payments are not appearing so balance is wrong and unable to match to downloaded transactions

Thanks, I have set the bank details correctly and will hopefully be OK next month.

Is there any chance of the problem with the journals created by Payroll being sorted so they don't just show random memos as they do now?

Allow me to share some information on how journal entry numbers work in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks uses a numbering sequence for journal entries (and custom transaction numbers). The system automatically increases it by one based on the last number entered.

If it's randomly auto-populating, the sequence might've been changed manually. You can combine letters and numbers when entering Journal No. field into the screen.
