You asked I need to set up my account so it runs from the start of last years tax year to the end, in the P&L section I can only see from January this year until now.

You can run the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports so you can review the business data for last year.

Here's how:

1. Go to Reports from the left menu. 
2. Enter either Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet in the Search box. 
3. Set the Report period to Last Year. 
4. Choose your Accounting method. 
5. Click Run report. 

In the meantime, for those transactions for the last year, make sure you select the correct account so that when you run the Profit and Loss you'll see it.
