It's important you're able to change the closing date and I'd be happy to show you how.
I want to make sure I give you the correct answers. Which closing date are you referring to? In case you're talking about closing the books, I encourage you to check out the resources below:
Closing the books, I tried going into the settings but it does not allow for the ability to adjust each month/period. It just happen to be 9/30 when we set up for 2017 year end but now I cannot adjust the other years without changing past. So for instance YE 2018 was 9/29, YE 2019 was 9/28 and YE 2020 will be 10/3. This makes the month/periods end on non calendar month end days.
I want to make sure you get the support you need with this. I recommend contacting our support team using this link here. One of our agents will be happy to take a look at your account assist you the best way possible.

Hello Angela,
Welcome to the Community! I can see how having the ability to select the precise month-end or year-end date is important for companies with floating year ends. I can shed some light on this feature for you.
In QuickBooks Online, you can select the month-end date for closing your books within Account and Settings, under the Advanced section. There you can use the calendar icon to select the date needed for the month-end then select Save. This locks past transactions so that they cannot be edited in error. You can set it so that changes can be made either after accepting a warning or by entering a password.
QuickBooks Online currently allows you to select the first month of the corporate year, defaulting the year-end date to the last day of the preceding month. This determines the date range for data when running reports with the fiscal year range selected. There isn't a way to select a specific day of the month. I recommend submitting some feedback to our software developers regarding the year-end function. They review the feedback they receive when preparing future updates and features. Here's how to submit feedback directly from within your QuickBooks Online company:
Select the Gear icon towards the top right, then Feedback.
Enter your comments or product suggestions then select Next.
You'll be provided a list of suggested Help articles related to your comment. You can read through them or select Skip and send message.
From the drop-down, choose the appropriate category, then select Send message.
I also recommend running reports with a custom date range in this situation rather than using the fiscal year for the date range. This way, you can generate your income statement, balance sheet and other crucial year-end reports with the correct start and end date. This can be done after running a desired report by selecting the Report Period drop-down menu and selecting custom, then entering the start and end dates in the two fields to the right of the drop-down menu. You'd then select Run Report to refresh the view to get the desired data.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Has the engineering team developed the ability to set up a 4 4 5 quarterly reporting system? I need to set up a new company with this monthly close cadence. Is QBO an option??
