In QuickBooks Online (QBO), closing a return means marking it as filed so the transactions are locked and the tax liability is move to your Tax Payable account.
If this is the case, make sure everything is correct before you file. Once done, follow the steps outlined below:
Navigate to the All apps menu and select Tax.
Click Prepare Return.
From the Filing period dropdown, choose the appropriate option.
Update the dates in the End date and Filing date fields.
If you need to add adjustments (such as credits, discounts, or corrections) locate the item in the list and click Adjust. Complete the adjustment details in the form, and select Save. The adjusted value gets updated in your return.
Take note of your gross sales, taxable sales, tax due, and adjustment amount (if you added one). This figures will be required when completing your tax return form.
After you have done with updating the details in the returns, select Mark as filed.
