Question

Can I create a financial activities report showing only the total net surplus or deficit for each class? This was possible in the classic format.

Nothing more to add other that to specify a period which is for the full financial year

Thank you for connecting with the QuickBooks Community, intuit_d56aebd01a87.Great question! The closest option in QBO is the Profit and Loss by Class report. Here's how to get there:

  1. Go to Reports and open Profit and Loss
  2. Use the Columns dropdown and select Classes.  This gives you a side-by-side view with a net income row at the bottom for each class
  3. Set your date range to your full financial year
  4. Hit the Collapse button at the top of the report. This rolls everything up and leaves just the top-level totals and the net surplus/deficit per class, which keeps it nice and clean

One honest heads-up though, QBO doesn't currently allow you to display only the net row the way the classic format did. The collapsed P&L by Class is the nearest equivalent. Meaning it's tidy, but it will still show income and expense subtotals above the net line rather than the net figure alone.

If you're on QBO Advanced, the Custom Report Builder gives you more flexibility and may get you even closer to that single-line summary view.
