Question

Desktop Pro License issue

I have been a Quickbooks Pro Desktop user since 1999. I am currently on Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2024. Since 2016, I have been using Desktop Pro on my office desktop PC (for accounting) and my laptop (just for viewing in the field and never accounting). I never used both computers at the same time (I don’t have multiple licences and no need to have 2 people modify the file at the same time). I recently renewed my subscription (last week). Everything is fine on my office desktop (the computer I used to renew the license), but my field laptop keeps giving a message to renew my subscription. I log in to my Intuit account from within Quickbooks (on the laptop) and it says my subscription is current. On the laptop, It says I will lose access to my company file in 3 day. In Quickbooks, I saw a button that says “Sync License Data Online” with no change. What is happening? I really need Quickbooks on my laptop. Help

Thank You,

Dave F.

The issue is that your laptop's local license data hasn't synced with the renewal you completed on your office desktop. To refresh the license, you need to rename the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file and sync license data online.

First, close the QuickBooks application entirely before renaming it:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows+to open the Run command.
  2. Copy and paste the path C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8, then press Enter.
  3. Right-click on the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file, then select Rename.
  4. Rename the file to EntitlementDataStore.ecml.OLD.

And re-open your QuickBooks and sync license data online:

  1. Navigate to the Help menu in your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Hover over the Manage My License option and select Sync License Data Online.
  3. Once the process is complete, a pop-up message will appear confirming successful synchronization. Click OK to finish.

If the issue persists, I recommend trying Solutions 2 and 3 outlined in this article: Fix subscription has lapsed error in QuickBooks Desktop.

Getting your license recognized on all your devices is key, and this should do the trick to get your laptop back in sync. If you run into any issues with the registration or if that error message appears again, just let us know. We’re happy to help you with the next steps!
