Allow me to share all the steps to help convert your account from Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online Essentials. 

 

Before anything else, it's recommended to download all of your work from QBSE. This is to make sure everything is saved because you can no longer go back to QBSE after switching to QBO. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select a tax year in the Tax details section.
  2. Select Download to get a Tax Details report.
  3. Download a report for each tax year you have in QuickBooks.
  4. Repeat the following actions above for the rest of the reports.

 

Once done, follow these steps to upgrade your subscription: 

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Billing info.
  2. Click Explore QuickBooks Online plans. Then, select Switch plan or Choose a plan.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps.
  4. Select Bring my data if you want to choose which data you move over. If you don't want to move any data and start fresh, select Start fresh.
  5. Choose To QuickBooks Online. If you see a billing info review screen, select Change plan to start.

 

The transfer process might take some time depending on the amount of data you have. An email notification will be sent as well as soon as the process is complete.

After completely setting up your QBO account, you can now proceed to activating QuickBooks Payments and start accepting online payments. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Gear or Settings ⚙ icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Proceed to the Payments tab. Then click Learn more in the QuickBooks Payment section.
  3. Choose Set up Payments.
  4. Enter all required details and follow the succeeding steps to create your payments account.

 

Once activated, your invoices will contain a link or button that will allow your customers to process payments online. You can ask them to follow the link and finish paying for the invoice online. Additional details and guidelines are also provided in these articles:

I would recommend to pick QB Online Plus to utilize the class tracking feature. Otherwise you may consider to use QB Online Essentials + a 3rd party rental property management app.
