Question

PC was replaced using USMT

I'm in IT support for our customer and my knowledge lacks with Quickbooks. What I know, we backed up the customer computer using the USMT process. The USMT process restored the data structure of Intuit under Public Documents. I see all these files but I cant restore them as a company. I see .QPB files under Backup, and I see QBPos.db file under the company name. They likely were using premiere 2018 when we swapped the PC, but I cannot open anything under premier. Is all the data lost or is the program I am trying to open the company with the wrong software?

Thank you for any help you may provide.

Hello there, Bob.

When you restore a company file, QuickBooks uses the backup company file (.qbb) to create a new one (.qbw). You can search the .QBB file type to restore it to your computer. Aside from that, if your backup company file is on an external device like a USB or a hosting service, you'll need to move it to your local hard drive first.

Let me show you how to restore a company file:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Desktop software.
  2. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Click Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  4. Select Local Backup. Click Next.
  5. Browse your computer for your backup company file that looks like [Your company name].qbb.
  6. Select a folder where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  7. When you're ready, select Save and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you get the same thing we can run the systems file doctor to get rid of unexpected behaviors. Please click here for more details on how to do run it: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

Feel free to mention me in your reply if you need more help. Take care and have a great day!
