Quickbooks Pro 2016 - Reinstall, doesn't download properly?

Hi all,

I've bought a new computer on the same Windows 11 Home OS as my previous ones. For my very small business it doesn't make sense to use QB Cloud services so I've continued to use my QB 2016 Pro software. I tried to reinstall the program on my new computer probably a half a dozen times but it stops the download about 15% into the process and it freezes [says "Installing VC9"]. I have to cancel and retry.

When I ran the Troubleshooter it says I need Windows XP which is not true. All my previous computers have been Windows Home. Any ideas?

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2016 Enterprise. Did you encounter the same problem?

I didn't try the trial version. The license I have is not for Enterprise so not sure what will happen after trial is over? will I need to buy a new license?

If you can install and run the trial version of QB Desktop 2016 Enterprise without any issue, you should be able to install your QB Desktop 2016 Pro later. You can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA and they can share the installer file.

One major reason you encountered the 'Installing VC9' error message is a compatibility issue. Let me discuss this further below.

Most apps and other programs that were created for earlier versions of Windows will work in the most recent versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11, but some older ones will run poorly or not at all. Here are the system requirements for QuickBooks Pro 2016:

Operating systems:

  • Windows: 8.1, 7, Vista (SP2 or later), Server 2012, Small Business Server 2011, Server 2008 R2, Server 2008, Server 2003 (SP2)
  • Mac: OS X v10.10 (Yosemite) or later

Hardware requirements:

  • Processor: Minimum 2.4 GHz
  • RAM: Minimum 4 GB (8 GB recommended)

Additional requirements:

  • Internet Access: Required for updates and online features
  • Microsoft.NET Framework: 4.0 Runtime (250 MB provided on the QuickBooks CD).

You can also run these troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

Disclaimer: The version of QBDT you are using is no longer supported, this also means you won't receive critical security updates protecting your data.

  1. Reboot your computer and start the installation again.
  2. If you have anti-virus or anti-spyware software, stop or temporarily disable it, and start the installation again.
    • If the installation is successful, restart your anti-virus software.
    • If the error occurs again, proceed with the next step.
  3. See Install QuickBooks in Selective Startup for detailed instructions.
  4. If you continue to receive the error, see Repair or reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework and start the installation again.
