Question

Scheduled backups are NOT working in Windows 10 after upgrading to the latest Creators Update, 1709. Task needs to be created with “Configure for” set to “Windows 10”.

When creating a backup schedule in QuickBooks a task is created under task schedule as it always has been.  However, after installing Windows 10 Creators Update 1709 the backup task now fails.

Reason : QuickBooks is setting "Configure for" to "Windows Server 2003, Windows XP or Windows 2000".

Workaround : Manually change "Configure for" to "Windows 10".

See the attached screenshots for how the task is created by QuickBooks, the error returned and the setting required to get the task to work.

This is a major issue as the majority of users will assume their backups are working since the scheduled was created successfully in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks needs to detect the OS and modify this setting accordingly when creating the task.

Thank you very much for your posting, I had the same problem using Quickbooks Desktop 2021Pro   I can't believe that this is still a problem 4+ years after Intuit was notified of the problem and solution!

Yes, this issue has persisted over the years.  I really don't think Intuit is interested in any support or development on the desktop software as I'm convinced they are trying to force users into the Online platform.

Another hint: if you are backing up to a network drive, you MUST use a UNC path.  Since QB 2022, for some reason the scheduled backups won't work if you select a mapped drive.  This isn't obvious until the scheduled backups fail.  The log messages aren't clear at all.

Have server 2022 and find out some issues.

if you want scheduled backup work:

1. folder rights.

you should give qbDataServiceUserXX rights to the folder

2. put "run with highest privileges"

(maybe you don't need this)

3. make user locale - English

4. make backup path with only English letters

when you run backup from sheduler - you can see TMP file in your backup folder and backup file creating in "company" folder. after backup done - backup file moves to your backup folder. but if no right or have NOT english simbols in the path - nothing happens.
