How can I update from QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016 to QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022?

The QuickBooks program has a 3-year life cycle and upgrading your company file from the 2016 version to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro Plus 2022 is a big leap. That means you have to convert your data file(s) in stages from 2016 to 2018 or 2019 to 2022.

Then, we can restore the file in between by finding and installing the trial license of QuickBooks 2018/2019 before converting the file(s) to QBD 2022. Once done, QuickBooks will ask you to upgrade your company file the first time you open it in your newer version. Also, the option to open your company file in your original version of QuickBooks after you upgrade it is unavailable. Here's how:

Make sure all users log out of your company file.
Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
Tap Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), choose Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
Browse your computer for your company file. Select it and then hit Open.
Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. Then click Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
Press Update Now to start the upgrade.
When QuickBooks finishes, click Done.

You can now open your company file in your new version of QuickBooks Desktop. If you keep your company files on a server, just move them back. Here's an article you can refer to for more details about upgrading your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

We can also move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. If you need to move your company files to another folder on your computer, on and off your network, or to another computer, follow the detailed steps in moving your company files to another computer.

Create a backup file (QBB) on your QBD 2016 and restore it on your QBD 2022. If you encounter an error, install the trial license for QBD 2019 to upgrade your file. Contact us in private if you need the trial code or another assistance.

Do I still need to pay every year for payroll as well as the yearly fee of $349.99 for the QB Pro Plus subscription? If so, you guys have really shot the price up. I paid $219.95 for QB Pro 2019 and then paid $230.00/year for payroll. That's a total of $909.95 for 3 years. Now, if I am understanding this correctly, I will have to pay $349.99 (until you raise the price again) every year PLUS the $230.00 (until prices are raised again) every year, which totals $1,739.97 for 3 years. That's a HUGE difference ($830.02).

I want to update our Quickbooks Pro 2019 to Quickbooks Pro 2022 desktop. I would like an upgrade disk instead of online, is that possible?

Why do you still need a media disc? You can download the installer anytime for free and burn it on the disk as you wish. Afaik, only a very limited number of partners offer media disks and you will pay extra for it.

If you upgrade to a newer version (year) of QuickBooks Desktop, you’ll need to upgrade your company files. As mentioned by Fiat Lux - ASIA, you can download the installer anytime for free and burn it on the disk as you wish.

Open QuickBooks.
Select Help, then choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.

Hi how to upgrade my 2013 Can version to 2022? Can upgrade in the 2013 system by using my old purchase code or needed to delete off and reinstall the newest version. Is it cheaper on upgrading from 2013 version

I notice you are asking the same question in CA community. Which country version did you use? US or CA?

You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2020 or 2021 to upgrade your version if required.

QuickBooks Desktop has a 3-year life cycle. Upgrading it from 2013 to 2022 may cause data issues due to feature or version differences. To prevent this from happening, you'll want to create a backup copy of your file and restore it to QBDT 2015/2016 and then to 2018/2019, then QuickBooks Desktop 2021. Once done, we'll then proceed to QBDT 2022, then that's it. You can smoothly run your files in the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Once you're done, here's how you can restore it:

In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
Select Local Backup and then Next.

Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.

How would I go about upgrading to a newer desktop version and not to and Online Version? I am still using Desktop Pro 2015 and obviously it is time. But I cannot find anywhere on the Intuit website to make such a purchase. It seems they only want to sell Online versions. I have tried it and did not like it and it is not nearly the same as the Desktop version. Also does anyone know if there is a way to buy older software and license (ie 2018-2021)? I think the prices on the website are ridiculous. Please help. Thank you

Do you need to purchase a single user user license? If you are living in the US, you have to call Sales at 1.800.315.1076 to purchase QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus

Another option, you can purchase via selected partners/resellers to get QB Desktop 2022 Pro Plus for single user = $650. You can upgrade to QB Desktop 2023 anytime for free as long as the license is active.

When there's a new version of QuickBooks available, you'll get a message to do an upgrade when you open QuickBooks.

To do this, here's how:

Select Upgrade Now on the prompt.
Choose to Keep old version on my computer if you want to keep your current QuickBooks.
Click Let’s go. QuickBooks downloads installs, and activates the new version for you. It updates your company file(s).
Once done the upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.

However, if you don't want to upgrade, you can simply close the prompt.

In addition, here are list of situations when you need to upgrade your program:

If you encounter a forced upgrade prompt from QuickBooks that happens mostly in three-year windows. For instance, if you have QBDT 2019 version, you’re going to be forced to upgrade to QBDT 2022. Upgrading to the newer version will ensure you'll be supported by Intuit.
You may also need to upgrade if you're getting a new computer operating system. This will sometimes cause the program to not function smoothly if they don't meet the minimum requirement in running a specific version.
If you want to have more licenses for additional users for your company or computers and you’re using an old version then, you may need to upgrade.

So, which online version do I upgrade to, I pay 500 annually for Payroll, and 6.00 mo for monthly payroll per employee usage fee.

I'm one user, small business non-profit.

NO interest in Intuit doing my payroll.

My annual Payroll fee renews January 29, 2023, so I need to make a decision ASAP. When trying to access upgrade your quickbooks via my home page no where do I see a choice for QBD Pro...I see essentials, Online Plus, etc. I tried chatting yesterday for over an hour, to no avail.
